Here is the Flamingo Diptych. I loved the reference photos for these so much I decided to paint this set. These beautiful flamingos wading remind me of warmer places as I looked out over my yard full of snow.

This is my first winter painting, and I titled it Winter Blues, both for the colors and for the emotions I feel at this time of year. This is acrylic on a small six inch square canvas.

Growing up on the prairies, nothing signified the change of season quite like the familiar honking of Canada geese as they made their way to the next nesting ground. I have long admired their lifetime devotion to their mate.
Watching them settle down along the lakeshore as the light began to fade at the end of the day inspired me to do this painting. The water was quite a challenge, I wasn’t sure how to show its depth with color and very little light. Surprisingly, the colors just naturally formed the waves and I had little else to do other than highlight the ones the light touched.

This piece, titled Anthurium, was inspired by a photograph. These waxy blooms are beautiful in an odd way, not in the same way as a rose or an orchid. The big rubbery leaves are the perfect backdrop for these tropical flowers. I liked the way the colors and shapes worked so well together.
